What History Is There Of Hurricanes
North Atlantic hurricanes have had wind speeds that are near the ones in the Northwest Pacific. From the best track on record, both Hurricane Camille (1969) and Hurricane Allen (1980) have winds that are estimated to be 190 mph. These measurements are not quite as accurate as they could be because with wind speeds this high, the measuring instruments often were completely destroyed.
