Description:

They are about 12-16 inches at the shoulders, they weigh up to 16 pounds. Upper paty of the head, flanks, back and most of the tail is gray. The hairs is in the middle of the back and the top of the tail. The tail is heavily tipped with black. That shows that is a black mane. They have elongated muzzles and their ears are forward-pointing Gray Foxes are the only ones that can climb trees to seek and search for food. They only can live up to 10 years.

 

Breeding:

They mate once a year. They start mating from December through April. In 62 days, the "kits" was born. They have litters, 2-8 kits are born at the same time. The kits weighs about 100 grams, their eyes cannot open; they keep their eyes closed. In 10-14 days their eyes open and begun to eat solid food by six weeks. They begin to feel independent at four months.

 

Dens:

The female fox called "vixen" may dig her own den into the soil or burrow of another another animal. The den is probably as much as 75 feet long. They can have 10 or more exits too. Gray foxes put their youngs in the den to be safe. They use it for saving food.

 

Kits:

They breed once a year between December to April. They have two-eight youngs. They are born in about 62 days. They weigh100grams when they are born. They open their eyes in 10-14 days. They started eating solid food by six weeks. After the kits are born, if they are strong enough, they could play and fight together. When they are big enough to go hunt, they are now independent.

 

Diet:

They eat different kind of food that some other foxes eat. Their diet are birds, fruits, berries, rodents,small animals, fish, small reptiles and eggs.

 

Hunting:

They hunted for insects and birds. They hunted for other food like in "Diet" .
