Wakeboarding started in the mid 80's when Tom Finn pulled a surfboard behind his boat. Tom and his friends called it skurfing. They made their first boards out of fiberglass, but then in 1987 Tim hooked up with a Frisbee company to mold the first skurfboard out of plastic. they added wind surfer stapes to the board to add a potential for bigger air possible.

In 1990 Herb O'Brien put out the first compression made board. the earliest tricks were a lot like surfer moves. However, when skiers, skaters, and snowboarders came to the sport they added a whole new meaning to the word Wakeboard. By adding the tricks created in all of these sports they made such tricks as the Tootsie Roll, and Tweety Bird.
