The first snowboard ever made is debatable. But it was made sometime around the 1920's, when kids would take barrel staves and ride down hills side ways. In the 70's Jake Burton started to shape snowboards out of wood and fixed rubber straps to them for bindings. Vermont played a big role in the birth of snowboarding. It was the first state to hold established snowboard contests in the late 70's early 80's. Vermont also was the first state to build a snowboard park in the early 80's.
