The pileated woodpecker has a black body and a red hat. It is large in size and has white underlines. It's large size allows it to more easily bore into the trees where it find insects to feed on.

 

Habitat

The pileated woodpecker lives in mature forests and in suburbs where the forests used to be. When in suburbs, it cannot typically find adequate living areas so it must try to stay in the larger forests.
