The Greater Road Runner has a long, thick dark bill, bushy crest, dark head, blue patch of bare skin includes eyes, pale fore neck and upper breast with dark stripes, dark back and upper wings, white bases to primaries show as a crescent on wing in flight, it also has a pale neck and long blue tail.

It is found living in the western deserts and arid regions, desert scrub, arid open areas, and along cultivated land.
