The chipping sparrow has a plain gray breast. In summer, it has a brown cap with a bold white eyebrow streak. In winter, it has a streaked cap with a darkened eyebrow.

This bird is abundant in woods and plains, though in summer it can be found in almost anywhere, from woods to wetlands.
