The American redstart is black with bright patches of color and has a white under tail. The bright patches of color are usually red and blue, the white underside is the most pronounced color.

The American redstart lives in the woodland areas so as to provide shelter and easy access to insects. With humans invading their territory, they are beginning to move into urban territories.
